TAU Convocation Highlights 2014

Texila American University graduated its maiden batch of doctors on 7th June, 2014 at the Hotel Marriot Marquis in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America. Here are the top highlights of the event which was marked as one of the big days of the university’s calendar.

Texila Warriors stretched University of Guyana cricket team to super overs

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – University of Guyana ‘A’ Team claimed victory over Texila Warriors with 52 for the loss of 5 wickets in a friendly 8-over between the two medical fraternities.

 

The event heated up on Saturday at the St. Stanislaus Sports Club Ground, and although the Warriors were in great shape they failed to capitalize on several opportunities provided by the opposing side.

At the end of the 8-overs Texila Warriors were 49 for the loss of 4 wickets. Nonetheless TAU could be proud of its Warriors especially David Yesudass, Nishanth Kumar, Love Kumar and Naveen Malik who displayed commendable prowess at bowling and batting.

Not to be outdone, Dr. Akwo and Mr. Kishore kicked off in a friendly mixed game between Dr. Akwo’s Team and UG’s Doctors Team. The score was 3 – 1.

To round out the day students also participated in other sports activities including 3-legged race, buns eating competition and eat anything competition.

It’s fair to say that the doctors from TAU and UG are in healthier shape after a day of friendly competition.

·         This course is designed for the upcoming orthopedic surgeons and as well for the senior Surgeons who want to update his/her knowledge and gain an additional qualification.

Eligibility

o   MB ChB or MBBS or equivalent degree with a postgraduate qualification, i.e., MS/MD, Diplomat of the National Board from India, FRCS or MRCS from UK or an equivalent specialist qualification

PG Advanced Standing

·         PG AS program is a unique program offered by TAU, whereby the PG Diploma / DNB(Pass/Fail) /FCPS/FRCP/MRCP candidates can credit transfer into a MD/MS examination based qualification under TAU without disturbing their busy schedule.

·         TAU also offers the opportunity to train the students of PG AS to appear for the Royal College examinations for better knowledge and mileage.

PG Diploma – 8 months

Texila Encourages the Evacuated Indian Students from Ukraine

Texila American University (TAU), one of the reputed Medical Schools in the Caribbean, has introduced the Credit Transfer Availability for the students who pursue Medicine & Nursing programs. This implies that even if the students have completed their first year of Medicine & Nursing in other Universities, they can advance their education at TAU.

The crisis that was initiated in Ukraine between the pro-Russian separatists and government forces over the past few days has completely changed the phase of the country, especially for the Indian students who are pursuing the medical studies in the Ukraine Medical Universities. It is estimated that the Indian embassy has evacuated around 1000 nationals from Ukraine who have not completed their education programs.

TAU has Introduced the Behavioral Science Programs Completely Online

TAU comes up with the School of Behavioral Science that deals with the study of human behavior via observations and experiments. The program is completely offered in online with a convenient schedule for the applicants.

 Several specializations in the School of Psychology considered include Applied Psychology, Counseling Psychology and Clinical Psychology. Medical Ethics in Bachelor Degree of Medicine

In today’s world which is filled with several institutional boards and hospital ethics committees, the greatest risk faced by the medical professionals is the lack of moral theories and principles in the practice of medicine.  The medical science has altered in such a way that it showcases the importance of ethical controversies.  Medical ethics is normally concerned with the moral issues emerging from the patient welfare.

It had turned out to be a highly debated session wherein Dr Venkatesh D, the Director of MS Ramaiah Medical College stated “We had done a survey on students some years ago. We realized they come to medical college with high ideals. Though the ethics was taught in the beginning, there were no assessments to validate them. Also most of the universities which taught ethics could not impart them into real-terms.  Hence it is mandatory to ensure that regular examinations will be conducted as a part of assessment for the new subject. A proper knowledge in ethics would help a medical practitioner to enhance the healthcare service rendered to the society.
